Ask anyone who knows St Julian’s where to do dinner and drinks properly, and watch them pause. There are plenty of places to eat and plenty of places to drink, but very few where you’d happily do both. Tanvi, in St George’s Bay, was built to be one of them.

We’ve built the bar and the kitchen as one idea: regional Indian food, signature cocktails, Asian gins and an extensive wine list chosen to perfectly complement the smoke, heat and spice of our dishes.

Why the best evenings start at the table

Most nights out in St Julian’s split the evening in two. Dinner in one place, drinks in another, and a negotiation in between about where to go next. It’s a plan, but it’s not always a good one.

We built Tanvi so the evening doesn’t need relocating. The cocktails are made by people who know what’s coming out of the kitchen, the wine is chosen with the food in mind, and the table is yours for as long as the evening needs it. When the drinks and the dinner speak the same language, the night stops feeling like two plans stitched together.

Dinner and drinks in one place

Kitchen and bar built together, so the evening never needs to move. Cocktails, wine, gin and food all arrive at the same table.

A menu that flexes

Indian small plates and a glass of wine, or the full spread: tandoor dishes, curries, warm kulchas and sides.

Cocktails that speak the kitchen’s language

Cardamom, mango, saffron, kahwa tea and curry leaf, used the way the kitchen uses them: with intent, and with balance.

St George’s Bay, steps from St Julian’s

A short walk from Paceville and the centre of St Julian’s, close to everything a good night out in Malta offers, but calm enough that dinner gets to be dinner before the night becomes anything else.

The first round arrives before the food does. After that, the table takes over.

First round: happy hour, the Tanvi way

There’s an hour in St George’s Bay when the light turns gold and the first ice hits the glass. We made it happier. Every day from 16:00 to 19:00, our signature cocktails come two-for-one, and this is a list worth working through.

Each one takes its name from an Indian craft tradition, and the ingredients follow. The Mango Gimlet is bright, with vodka, mango, oxymel and cardamom. Sozni goes deeper, layering sakura gin, sherry, kahwa tea cordial and cherry bitters. And Nakkashi heads somewhere else entirely: sage vodka, curry powder and a mango and saffron lassi. If you want to browse before you arrive, the full cocktail menu is worth ten minutes of your time.

Not drinking? The dry cocktail list gets the same care as everything else. Aizawl Sunset, with passionfruit, ginger and grapefruit soda, is very much part of the evening.

The table: as light or as generous as you want it

Malta and India agree on at least one thing: a meal is measured by what ends up in the middle of the table. Two of you keeping it simple… maybe a little romantic? Something from the tandoor, a proper curry, warm kulchas, and you’re well fed. A table of eight with opinions? Snacks first, then the tandoor, then curries and biryani arriving until somebody calls it.

At Tanvi there’s no fixed script. Afghani Chicken Tikka with its grape chutney, Old Delhi Chicken with smoked cream, or an Awadhi Lamb Biryani sealed and steamed until the rice takes on all the spice: the shape of the meal is yours to decide.

If wine is part of the plan, aromatic whites like Gewürztraminer and Riesling sit comfortably with spice, and there are Maltese bottles from Meridiana, Ta’ Betta and Markus Divinus if you’d like something grown on the island. You’re welcome to browse the wine list before you arrive, or simply ask the team on the night. They know what works with what.
